If you’re a little confused about what to buy in March, you’re not alone.  This month, in particular, finds itself in a unique position.

Deals on winter clearance and after Christmas specials have likely passed.  And spring items won’t be discounted until the latter half of the second quarter.

In the month of March, shelves will be full of St. Patrick’s Day & Easter decor.  However, you should hold off on that type seasonal decor until after those holidays have passed.

Shopping for your home in the month of March is all about second-hand finds.  Here’s what to buy in March and where you should go to find the best deals.

Garage Sales

Hands down, the best finds for your home in March are going to be found at Yard sales, garage sales and, estate sales.  Why?  Spring cleaning.

Much like the big purge we see after the winter holidays, spring cleaning is a time when people are keen to take stock of what they have, what they’re using, and more importantly what they aren’t using.

What’s even better is you don’t have to go to your local thrift store or GoodWill hoping there’s still good stuff to be found.  You can reap the benefits of someone else’s declutter right in your own neighborhood.

The weather is warming up and folks are out and about planting flowers and enjoying the sunshine for the first time in months.  This makes it a great time to hold a yard sale.

Don’t forget to look for community-wide garage sales dates for your neighborhood or local area.  The Nextdoor app is really great for this, as well as Facebook and Craigslist.  Also, keep a lookout for chuch rummage sales as well.  You’ll likely find a ton of variety all in one spot.

Chocolate & Frozen Foods

Okay, at first glance this may sound like a random thing to include in a list of things to buy for your home in March, but it’s a good one.

Chocolate is on sale because Valentine’s Day has just passed.  Frozen food is on sale in March because it is National Frozen Food Month.

Small chocolates and frozen hors d’oeuvres are great things to have on hand for home entertaining.  They’re especially handy if you have unexpected guests.

Don’t forget to stock up on things like frozen puff pastry, frozen pie crusts, and frozen desserts.  These will go to good use if you’re planning a brunch in the coming months.
