Hi, it's Lindsay Diane from DianeDecor.com. Today, let's talk about three guest bathroom
0:08
must-haves and the type of decor that you'll want to have in a guest bathroom and the type
0:13
that you should definitely leave out. While it's great to have beautifully folded towels
0:18
and the perfect array of guest toiletries, there are three things that are far more important for
0:25
guest bathroom and that is functionality, visibility, and accessibility. In this video
0:32
we'll talk all about what each of those mean and the types of home decor that you'll want to target
0:38
to help you achieve those three important things. Number one is guest bathroom functionality. Does
0:47
your bathroom function at its most basic level? Can guests go in, make use of the space, and come
0:53
out. It's important to remember that guests come in all different shapes and sizes and having an
1:01
excessive amount of decor or organizational items may actually hinder their ability to use the space
1:08
properly. If your guest bathroom has a tub or a shower with it, be very mindful of the things that
1:16
you put in your bathroom because guests are going to need extra space to move in and move out of the
1:22
the tub if they're overnight guests, of course. Don't take up floor space with a standing floor
1:27
rack. Instead, wall mount as much as possible or consider one of the over the toilet tank shelving
1:35
units. This will give you the storage space that you need without taking up any precious floor space
1:42
that guests are going to need to be able to move around. In the shower, you'll also want to utilize
1:48
some of the suction cup mounted racks or the ones that hook over the top of the shower head to save space but also give them all the items that they need Try not to over clutter the bathroom counter
2:02
itself especially if you have a small bathroom you want guests to be able to lay out their things
2:07
whether it's makeup or their toiletry bag or what have you. You want to make sure that that's not all
2:12
taken up with decor so that they can actually function in that space. Number two is visibility
2:19
You want to make sure that your guests can see everything they may possibly need. So that includes
2:25
toilet paper. Now, while you might not have an entire case of toilet paper visible, you may have
2:31
one or two rolls tucked in a little tank basket or on the side on a shelf or something like that
2:39
just so that they can easily see it and grab it if they need it
2:44
Other things that you'll want to make sure are visible are paper towels or the disposable guest
2:52
towels if you want to use those or your regular hand towels, lotions, hand sanitizer. You don't
2:58
necessarily want those tucked away in a bunch of little decorative boxes or baskets where people
3:04
are going to have to hunt for them and lift the lid because they may feel as though they're kind
3:08
of snooping through your things and aren't sure whether they're meant for them or not
3:13
So to avoid people feeling that way, you want to make sure that everybody can see the things
3:17
that you want them to be able to use. Number three is accessibility
3:22
I can see it, but I can't reach it. You don't want your guests to have that experience
3:28
We've all run into that at one time or another in a grocery store where the item that we
3:32
one is up high on those extra shelves and you got to go find somebody to get get it down for you
3:39
you don want a guest to experience that in your bathroom especially if it something that they really need like toilet paper or maybe a deodorizing spray You don want anyone to have to do the walk of shame back out to the party and
3:53
whisper, I need the toilet paper, I can't reach it. You don't want anyone to have to do that
3:59
So make sure that not only can they see the item that they may need, but they can actually reach
4:04
it and get to it really easily. This is particularly important for kids. When I know that we're going
4:10
to have lots of young ones around in the guest bathroom. I usually will lower the hand towels
4:16
and put them right on the counter and also hang one on the ring. Or you can do those over the
4:22
cabinet door towel holders that will put them nice and low so that smaller people that are visiting
4:30
can reach them easily. So now that we know the three things that are the most important
4:35
And here are the types of decor that will help you achieve all of those things
4:40
Number one is open shelving or floating shelves. That's something that's going to bring things up off of the floor, but be within reach of
4:50
most people so that you can put a basket or some clear acrylic containers that may be
4:55
holding some toiletries that they may need. And they can see them, they can reach them, and they aren't in the way of people moving
5:03
around in the bathroom. The second is baskets. Small little wicker baskets or rattan baskets are fantastic for the bathroom
5:13
They will help corral your items, let you put them on the shelf, you can put them on the toilet tank
5:19
or you can put them on the side of the sink to help corral some of the soap and hand sanitizer
5:26
and lotion and towels, things like that. Just like a basket, you can also use a tray to do pretty much
5:33
all of those things. You just don have the ability to kind of hold them in They don have the walls that a basket would have But if you want to use a tray on your bathroom counter that perfect It especially makes it easy when you want to go
5:47
clean your bathroom. You can just pick up the tray, all of the items are on it, and clean off
5:53
your surfaces and replace it, and it's easy. The types of things that you'll want to avoid having
5:59
in a guest bathroom for decor are too many small breakable items. If there's anything super fragile
6:07
you might want to lean away from that. So decorative objects, decorative figurines that
6:12
are glass or ceramic, you may want to save those for another space because it can easily be knocked
6:19
over by someone who is unfamiliar with that space. Now, while you may be in and out of it
6:25
daily tidying up using the bathroom on a daily basis someone new is coming into your space and
6:32
they may not know the delicate balance that you have between this you know potted plant and this
6:37
tray and these little things and if they're reaching for something it could be easily knocked
6:42
over and broken and the last thing that you want is any hard sharp shards of anything whether it's
6:48
glass or ceramic broken in a bathroom and again hampers can stay out of the bathroom
6:54
If you can, I would put them into a guest bedroom or a guest bedroom closet
7:01
Ideally, I would save that space and make it usable for someone to walk around and turn
7:09
around and things like that. That's it for this video. I hope you found it helpful
