hi it's Lindsay Diane from
0:04
dianecor.com In this video we're going
0:06
to talk about how to decorate your home
0:09
to make it feel festive for the holidays
0:12
without cluttering it So we are
0:14
specifically talking about holidays
0:16
outside of Christmas So Easter St
0:20
Patrick's Day Valentine's Day Fourth of
0:23
July Memorial Day Thanksgiving all of
0:26
these holidays that we want to decorate
0:28
for and feel a little bit festive during
0:31
that 2 weeks or so surrounding that
0:33
holiday but you don't want to go so
0:36
overboard that your house is just
0:38
cluttered and distracting Never mind the
0:42
fact that we probably already have
0:43
seasonal decor out as well So I'm going
0:47
to share with you how to layer in
0:50
holiday decor so that you have a festive
0:52
feeling in your home to celebrate the
0:53
holiday without making it feel cluttered
0:56
and overwhelming Let's get started The
0:59
first tip is that you want to swap out
1:02
your decor not add to it So if you
1:06
already have items out for seasonal
1:09
decor swap items don't add For instance
1:14
if you have a beautiful decorative bowl
1:19
that's by your entryway and you have an
1:22
Easter themed bowl swap those two things
1:26
out Don't find a new place to put the
1:28
Easter bowl Instead take away the one
1:30
that's usually there Put your Easter
1:34
instead Similarly with wreaths If you
1:37
have a spring wreath up but Easter's
1:39
coming up and you want to be festive for
1:41
Easter just swap the wreath out Don't
1:44
worry about trying to mount that wreath
1:46
to your pantry door or your back door or
1:49
maybe on your mantle Instead of worrying
1:52
about finding a new location for that
1:54
second wreath just swap them out So do
1:57
this all over your home Other things
2:00
that you can swap out are table runners
2:07
candles candy dishes cookie jars
2:11
vases soap dispensers Lots of these
2:15
things come themed for holidays and
2:18
they're easy swaps to make to make your
2:20
home feel festive without you adding
2:23
additional decor to it and making it
2:25
feel cluttered Tip number two is to
2:29
choose only one symbol of the season and
2:32
one accent color So a symbol of the
2:35
season if we're using Easter as the
2:37
example that's bunnies or eggs or
2:41
carrots or baskets All of those things
2:45
are symbols of that holiday and you want
2:48
to choose only one of them to feature in
2:51
your home Colors we know are pastel
2:54
colors yellows purples uh light pale
2:58
blues greens Choose one of them to
3:02
accent in your home You don't want to go
3:04
overboard and have a thousand different
3:06
colorful eggs everywhere It's going to
3:09
be one seem a little bit kitty It's not
3:12
the most elegant look I'm not saying
3:14
that you necessarily have to go all
3:16
neutrals but what I would say is try to
3:19
stick to one color So you could have
3:21
some really beautiful painted eggs that
3:23
are in blue tones or green tones but I
3:27
wouldn't try to adopt every single color
3:30
of the holiday in your decor because
3:33
it's going to create a visual clutter
3:36
that is a little bit distracting So
3:39
while you may only have you know a half
3:41
a dozen little eggs all of those little
3:44
colors are visually distracting
3:46
especially if your overall scheme is
3:48
neutral as it is It's just a lot of
3:51
visual clutter Your eyes are bouncing
3:53
around because they're seeing all these
3:54
colors and they're grabbing your
3:56
attention So consider one color and one
4:00
symbol of the season only Tip number
4:03
three is to use functional decor So
4:07
instead of having a ton of little
4:10
figurines and uh you know decorative
4:13
accessories that don't really do
4:15
anything instead focus on the things
4:19
that are functional So like we said with
4:21
the swaps things like table runners or
4:26
dishcloths trays jars vases
4:31
uh trivets I know you know for
4:33
Thanksgiving they have lots of little
4:35
trivets that come in like pumpkin shapes
4:37
and leaf shapes Same thing with like um
4:40
cutting boards and serving trays Lots of
4:43
times they come in different shapes for
4:45
the season They may be shaped like a
4:47
bunny or an oak leaf or a flag or
4:50
something like that Go for things that
4:52
are functional that you're going to be
4:54
able to use and that will help decrease
4:58
the amount of little decorative
4:59
accessories that you have around the
5:01
house You're still getting that festive
5:03
feeling because you're seeing that
5:04
symbol of the season or you're seeing
5:05
those colors and it's still sprinkled
5:07
into your decor but you don't have so
5:10
many little knick-knack sort of things
5:12
all over the place that will create
5:14
clutter on your countertops or on your
5:17
mantle or on other tabletop spaces in
5:20
your home And last but not least stick
5:23
to decorating the hightra areas in your
5:26
home So think about your entryway your
5:29
kitchen your living room Those are the
5:33
most hightraic areas Also a guest
5:36
bathroom is another great place to
5:38
decorate for the holidays You can swap
5:41
out your hand towels that may be themed
5:43
for the holidays You can swap out your
5:45
soap dispensers and things like that
5:48
your vase or a little candle that you
5:50
may have in there that may have some
5:52
sort of Eastering or Easter um you know
5:55
applique on it That's a great way to
5:58
decorate for the holiday Make your home
6:01
feel festive without cluttering it
6:04
Sticking to those hightraic areas will
6:06
one limit the amount of decor that you
6:08
need to purchase but also it won't be so
6:12
overwhelming One putting it up and
6:15
taking it down You know the whole idea
6:17
is that you're going to be in these
6:19
spaces most often so you'll get to
6:22
experience it You know yes you could put
6:25
it in your bedroom Yes you could put it
6:26
in your home office or your kids' rooms
6:29
but you know how often one are you
6:32
really in those spaces And two all of
6:35
those people are going to enjoy them in
6:38
these common areas as well So it's not
6:41
as if leaving out the bedrooms or
6:44
leaving out some of these other you know
6:45
a family room or a den or a home office
6:48
or a patio Leaving those places out does
6:51
not mean that you don't get to
6:53
experience that festive feeling because
6:55
you are putting those in the hightraic
6:57
areas that you know you're going to be
6:59
in That's it for this video I hope you
