Hi, I'm Lindsay Diane from Diane Decor.com
0:05
In this video, I'm going to show you four easy ways to find your interior design style
0:11
There are so many different styles to choose from, whether it's modern, modern organic
0:17
there's Scandinavian, there's modern farmhouse still kind of hanging on, there's rustic chic
0:24
there are so many different styles to choose from, never mind all the mashups of styles
0:29
that are going on. So if you don't know where to start and you want to have a beautifully put
0:35
together home and you know you like certain things but not others but you don't really know the name
0:40
for it, this is the video for you. I'm going to show you the easy way to go about finding
0:45
your interior design style so that you can shop on your own. You don't necessarily have to hire
0:49
an interior designer to help put those things for you. I'm going to show you how to identify
0:54
your style and how to shop for it online yourself. Let's get started
0:59
The first way to help find your interior design style is to follow a brand
1:05
Following a brand is a really quick and simple way to shop for a particular style
1:12
So even if you don't know what that style is, but you see things that are on Target or on Walmart's website or Wayfair's website
1:22
And you notice that they're all from the same brand. It's like, I like this lamp
1:27
I like this couch. I like this, check out the brand that they're from
1:32
And if you start to see a common thread, like three or four of the items that you're looking at that you like, are all from the threshold brand
1:40
Or they're all from the Jungleow and Opel House collection. Or they're all from Kelly Clarkson Home or Better Homes and Gardens
1:48
You use that as a starting point to help identify your design style
1:52
Because on the website, they're going to describe to you what style that brand is
1:58
So I'm going to give you an example of this. One of the sites I like a lot is at home because they have an inspiration page that's set up really, really well
2:09
I'm going to share my screen with you now. So at home.com, if you click on the inspiration tab that's right there at the top
2:17
it's going to bring you to a landing page where you are going to be able to kind of browse different styles, different ways
2:25
So, of course, they're going to have their new arrivals. This is all Halloween and fall stuff at the time that I'm recording this
2:32
But you can see there the very next thing down is shop by exclusive brand
2:37
So these are brands that are exclusive to at home. Almost all websites have them
2:41
There are certain brands that are exclusive to Target, and there are certain ones that are exclusive to Wayfair and Walmart
2:47
But here, let's say I click on Crosby Street, and right here I'm going to see a picture of a lot of the things
2:53
in this Crosby Street collection. If I really like that vibe, I'm like, yeah, I like these nice
2:59
There's nice deep warm tones. It's almost a little bit masculine, but it's still cozy and soft
3:07
And this is their modern design I would call this borderline It modern bordering on modern organic Usually modern organic has a little bit of a lighter brighter feel to it But this is their modern design line
3:20
Now, Found in Fable says it explores global influences. So this is more of an eclectic line
3:27
Providence is more of a traditional coastal line. Then you've got honey bloom
3:32
They're saying this is more of a modern farmhouse vibe. So this is the first way that I would go about
3:39
searching for my design style is to follow a brand. If I like the pictures that I'm seeing, I would read the description of that brand and then
3:52
start to go from there. You can use this method on multiple sites
3:56
So again, let's jump over to Wayfair and I'll show you how I do that over here
4:00
So on Wayfair's website, I can actually just scroll down from their homepage and towards the
4:07
bottom, we are going to start to see their exclusive brands. So you can explore their exclusive
4:15
brands. They're, you know, highlighting a few here, the Kelly Clarkson Home, Mercury Row
4:21
three posts, refine. I'm going to go ahead and click Shop All. So once I browse all the brands
4:28
it's going to drop me to a landing page where I can actually just search by interior design style
4:34
here, which is really great. Again, you're seeing the pictures. You're getting a preview of the types of things there. And once I go in, so let's say I say traditional
4:43
I'm going to come in here and they're going to tell me, these are all the traditional brands
4:47
that are on the Wayfair site that are exclusive to Wayfar at least. So three posts, Andover Mills
4:53
Rayleigh and Steelside. I can also go back and look at some of the rooms that they're
5:04
featuring and I can say, okay, I like this living room. I can go to bedrooms
5:09
And so I can go here and I can see that they're going to tell me which brand styled that room that I'm looking at
5:15
and a little blurb about it. So if I look at this bedroom and I think
5:19
oh, this looks nice. This is zip code design and they are contemporary
5:24
This bedroom with the four-post bed, it's three posts and they're traditional
5:29
So this is an easy way to help identify your interior design style
5:34
Just start by exploring a brand. The next way to find your interior design style is to follow a designer
5:41
There are designer collabs all the time. All of the sites have them
5:46
So let's say we bounce back to the at-home website. We're going to go back to At Home, and we're going to go back to their inspiration page
5:55
When we scroll on down just past the exclusive brands, now we get to the collaboration
6:00
So they have a collaboration with Ojojoi. They have Willow Crossley. They have Ty Pennington, Leila Ali, Tracy Boyd
6:11
And for all of these, you're going to see a description. Of course, you see the images
6:16
So you can just make a choice just based on the visuals alone. But then you can read the blurb and see, okay, Tracy Boyd is eclectic
6:24
And Leila Ali is a little bit like Lux Ty Pennington is more of a coastal farmhouse So this is a really great way to help discover your design style as well
6:38
Target's also really great for doing collabs. You can go to Target's website and I would jump to like their home decor, explore all page
6:48
And when you start scrolling down there, you're going to see three of their big collabs
6:53
which is the hearth in hand with Magnolia, which we know is more of a farmhousey feel
6:58
They have threshold with Studio McGee. This is a transitional style. And then there is Jungleo collab with Opel House
7:10
and this is an eclectic style. Something also to kind of keep in mind
7:18
so threshold exists outside of Studio McGee, an opal house exists outside of junklow
7:26
So for instance, if you're in there and you're looking at the junkalo collection with
7:31
Opel House and you say, okay, yeah, I really like this feel. It's colorful
7:36
It's really kind of artisan. I like this style. And you've kind of exhausted all of the Jungleow collection
7:46
Just keep in mind that Opel House is that style for Target
7:51
So Opel House exists outside of the Jungle Oak Collection, so you would want to search for just
7:56
Opel House stuff, and then that's going to open you up to a much larger selection of
8:02
items in that design style. I hope that makes sense. Walmart also does something very similar. Walmart has lines with Sophia Bergara Home
8:15
That's more of the glam line. Drew Barrymore had a collection with them
8:19
she is she's leading more towards the appliances and kitchen stuff now
8:27
but originally she had a very eclectic boho style as well she'd released you know
8:34
rugs and chairs and all that stuff but now they've really kind of honed it
8:38
in on the beautiful line and those are the electric kettles and the other small
8:44
countertop appliances blenders stuff like that there's also better Homes and Garden, which I'm sure you're familiar with from the magazine that's been around for
8:55
decades. Better Homes and Garden is a traditional style, and it is sold exclusively at Walmart
9:04
So while it's not exactly a collab, it more sort of lands on brand, you know that you can just
9:12
search for these types of mashups with designers or other companies going with Target
9:19
or Walmart or at home and follow them and that will help you discover your interior design style
9:25
The next way to find your interior design style is to just simply shop by the style. Use the visuals
9:32
that the websites are showing you for those styles and identify one that you like. It doesn't
9:37
necessarily have to be from a particular designer or a particular brand All you have to do is go to the shop by style section of the website and browse the photos there So we saw it on Wayfair website It also exists on Walmart
9:54
On Walmart, you would go to the home section from the main menu, and then you're going to drop down
10:00
the brands. It featured shops. And then you see here, you have this subcategory to shop by style
10:06
So when I go ahead and click on that, now I'm on my shop by style
10:11
I can search for farmhouse stuff. I can search mid-century modern. I can look at the French country, the bohemian, the glam
10:20
It's going to just kind of give you a landing page for a bunch of different styles that you can browse
10:28
And if any of those connect with you, you'll know that's what it's called
10:32
Last but not least, an easy way to find your interior design style is by taking a design quiz
10:40
Now, these are really fun to take. I take them all the time, even though they always turn up the same results
10:46
I'm transitional. I like that mashup between contemporary and traditional. That's really what transitional is
10:53
So the Studio McGee style, that's my lane. But you can find your style very easily on Havenline
11:02
Lee's website. So on their right off of their home page, they're going to give you an option to
11:08
find your style and they're going to show you a bunch of photos. And you just scroll and scroll and
11:13
click on the ones that you like. That's all you have to do. You don't have to answer any quiz
11:17
questions or anything like that. You're literally just browsing through pictures and you're
11:21
clicking on the ones that you like. And then of course it's going to ask you for your name and your
11:25
email because they want to lead on you. But once you provide that, it's free. You will be
11:32
given your interior design style. You'll also be given a nice description of what that is
11:39
and then they may also give you some sub-styles that you may also like. So I think that this is
11:47
a really simple and quick way to find your style. Of course, if you want extra help, you can still
11:54
hire an e-designer like Havenly. They will help you design a room. They will help put together
12:01
a list of, you know, a mood board, and they're going to actually use real pieces that they've found
12:08
online, and they're going to lead you to them, then they're going to show you exactly where you can
12:13
buy them and give you just the whole rundown, top to bottom. It's, I think it's a great service
12:19
It's affordable, interior designers can be very, very expensive. So e-designers are the much more
12:25
budget-friendly route, usually for around $200. You can get them to design a room for you
