Hi, it's Lindsay Diane from
0:05
dianecor.com.
0:07
In this video, we're going to talk all
0:09
about interior design trends that you
0:12
should be following. Now, if you visited
0:14
my channel before, you know that I don't
0:17
do a lot of trend videos. I prefer a
0:20
timeless approach to my interior, but
0:24
trends are fun to dabble in. They're
0:26
just fleeting, which is why it's not
0:28
really worth the investment for lots of
0:31
people because things and tastes change
0:34
so quickly. However, there are some
0:38
trends that are worth following and they
0:41
are a particular type of trend that I
0:43
want to talk to you about in this video.
0:46
So, let's get started talking about the
0:48
interior design trends that you should
0:50
be following. The interior trends that
0:53
you should be following are those that
0:56
are born through innovation.
0:58
These are decorative touches that at one
1:01
point in time were either too expensive
1:04
for the average family, too time
1:06
consuming to maintain, or only
1:08
commercially available or hard to find.
1:12
Luckily for us, due to advances in
1:15
technology, some of these things are now
1:17
accessible to us in a new way.
1:21
So, what exactly are we talking about
1:23
here? I'm going to share with you four
1:25
different interior design trends, and
1:28
we're going to look at all of the new
1:30
innovative products that are available
1:33
to help you achieve these decorative
1:36
looks. Let's get started with number
1:39
one, mood lighting.
1:42
The first interior design trend is mood
1:45
lighting. You will be hardressed to find
1:48
an interior design blog or professional
1:50
that does not talk about the importance
1:53
of lighting in your space. And this goes
1:56
far beyond your basic overhead lighting
2:00
and natural lighting that comes in
2:02
through your windows. We're talking
2:04
about a supplemental lighting plan in
2:07
your home that may involve things like
2:10
wall sconces and night lights and
2:13
picture lights, under cabinet lights,
2:16
back lit uh televisions.
2:19
There are so many options available to
2:23
us now that were just not available
2:25
before.
2:26
Things like having dimmer switches and
2:29
wall sconces and underc cabinet lighting
2:32
were only for those who could hire an
2:35
electrician to retrofit their home to,
2:38
you know, do all of the hard wiring to
2:40
fit those things in. And so, lots of us
2:42
just went without it because that just
2:45
wasn't in the budget. But nowadays, we
2:48
have a plethora of wireless options,
2:50
whether they're battery operated or
2:53
rechargeable. We have pretty much any
2:56
lighting you can think of at our
2:58
disposal. And you do not need a handyman
3:00
to install them. You do not need an
3:02
electrician to install them. These are
3:04
easy sort of either peel and stick
3:06
options or things that can, you know,
3:10
just screw into your drywall and you're
3:12
ready to go.
3:14
So, some of the things that are
3:16
available to us now that we didn't see
3:19
before and are very, very popular in
3:21
interiors right now are number one,
3:24
spotlights. Spotlights are being used to
3:29
feature decorative accents. So,
3:31
sometimes people use them as uplighting
3:33
behind a artificial tree that's in a
3:36
corner. Sometimes they use it to
3:39
spotlight down onto a picture or a, you
3:43
know, a decorative accent of some kind,
3:46
a statue, a figurine. In addition to
3:49
that, there are some really fun things
3:50
that I've seen just in the past year
3:53
that are really catching on. One of them
3:56
is the shower lamp. Now, for sure, this
4:01
was made to be something to be used
4:04
outside on a patio. They are these
4:07
little waterproof rechargeable lamps
4:11
that you can actually put in your
4:14
shower. I'm seeing these all over
4:17
Instagram and Pinterest. It adds this
4:21
really beautiful mood lighting to your
4:22
shower. In addition to that, we're also
4:26
seeing um shower overhead shower lights.
4:31
And what's funny is that uh another
4:33
trend is what has spurred on the demand
4:37
for these overhead shower lights, and
4:40
that is people bringing their shower
4:42
curtains all the way up to the ceiling.
4:44
It creates a really dramatic look. This
4:46
is something that started to become
4:48
popular maybe 3 or 4 years ago. But what
4:51
happens when you move your shower
4:54
curtain all the way up and you sort of
4:56
let it run the full length of your
4:59
shower from ceiling to floor is that you
5:02
tend to cut off the lighting. And so
5:04
people were ending up with like really
5:06
dark little shower caverns.
5:08
But luckily there are stickup overhead
5:13
shower lights. There are even some that
5:16
have switches that look like regular
5:19
light switches that you can adhere
5:21
directly to your wall next to your
5:23
standard light switch so that you're
5:25
just flipping on a switch as if it were
5:28
hardwired and you wouldn't really know
5:29
the difference. So, these little things
5:32
are really fun. They're interesting and
5:34
the fact that we even have them
5:36
available is amazing when you start to
5:38
combine some of these mood lighting
5:41
ideas together. So, for instance, you
5:43
may have under cabinet lights in your
5:45
bathroom, and you may have one of those
5:48
little rechargeable lights that sticks
5:50
onto the side of your toilet so that it
5:52
illuminates in the evening. You have
5:54
this little shower lamp in your shower.
5:57
And maybe you have an additional
5:58
overhead light over your shower and tub
6:01
situation. You have a lot of
6:03
supplemental lighting options here that
6:06
create a really, really beautiful
6:08
ambiance. And an overhead light really
6:10
isn't needed. You can sort of set the
6:12
mood with some of these lower light
6:15
options. I think it's just really,
6:18
really cool. Again, when you talk about
6:20
moving into a living room or a bedroom,
6:24
we have LED strip lighting that we put
6:26
behind televisions. That was not an
6:28
option before. There, you know,
6:31
controlled by apps on our phone or
6:32
they're remote controlled. You do not
6:35
need to hardwire any of these things.
6:37
It's a really amazing innovation and
6:40
it's no wonder that mood lighting is
6:43
such a trend now because we have all of
6:45
these new innovations at our hands.
6:48
Trend number two is the TV wall and the
6:52
feature wall. Now, sometimes these are
6:55
one and the same, but they often are two
6:58
separate things that are living in two
7:00
different rooms. Now, the feature wall
7:03
is just an accent wall. No matter how
7:05
many times you may hear somebody say
7:07
accent walls are out, accent walls are
7:10
never out. They just sort of change
7:13
their form. So let's say in the early,
7:17
let's say 2010s, we had painted accent
7:21
walls. This was where you picked one
7:24
bold color to feature on one of your
7:28
four walls, and that was sort of a way
7:31
to spotlight something special in a
7:33
room, right? you had that one painted
7:36
accent wall. When the painted accent
7:39
walls went out, then we started seeing
7:41
things like murals. So, we started
7:44
seeing like these huge peel and stick
7:46
mural walls. We started seeing um
7:50
fulllength gallery walls. This was the
7:53
next sort of phase of the accent wall.
7:56
And now we are in a trend where we have
8:00
wall molding and wall paneling. And
8:04
again, this is something that is easily
8:06
accessible to everyone now. Before it
8:10
was a trip to Home Depot if you wanted
8:12
to DIY it. So, if you were lucky enough
8:14
to have the skill set in the tools to be
8:17
able to, you know, cut down your wood
8:19
and cut down your trim and measure out
8:21
your your plan for your molding, you
8:24
could do it yourself, right? Or you
8:27
would have to hire a contractor to
8:29
create this type of feature wall for
8:31
you. But nowadays there are peel and
8:35
stick options. And not only does it make
8:38
it a nice renter friendly or temporary
8:42
option for you because of course
8:44
everyone's taste changes over time, you
8:47
may not want this particular feature
8:49
wall forever and you want to be able to
8:51
reverse it if you can. Right? This is
8:54
something where if you had paid a
8:56
contractor to come and install all of
8:57
this molding, you may be a little bit
8:59
hesitant to have somebody rip it all
9:01
out. But if you have peel and stick
9:03
little panels that you can pull down
9:05
really easily, why not give it a try?
9:08
The really great thing about these is
9:10
that they're usually a like a faux wood.
9:13
They're a plastic paneling or tiling.
9:16
And this makes them very light. Them
9:19
being light is what makes them even more
9:23
accessible to us because you don't need
9:26
two people to install these anymore. a
9:29
single person can do them without the
9:31
assistance of someone else. And it just
9:33
makes it even more popular. And the
9:36
trend has just caught fire. Everywhere
9:40
you look, you see paneling and wall
9:42
molding as a feature wall or an accent
9:46
wall.
9:48
Similarly, we see TV walls becoming very
9:51
popular. Now, this is just another
9:53
version of a feature wall. you're just
9:56
choosing to spotlight the television.
9:59
So, you can do things like put wall
10:01
molding or put wall paneling right
10:03
directly behind a TV where it's mounted
10:06
on the wall. Maybe you even flank it
10:08
with some rechargeable wall sconces that
10:11
you don't have to hard wire and you have
10:14
a really beautiful look. Top it off with
10:17
some of those LED strip lights that go
10:19
on the back of the TV and you have
10:20
really something very special to look
10:22
at. Number three is pull out cabinet
10:26
drawers.
10:28
Kitchen innovations are no longer
10:30
available for those with the money to
10:33
construct a custom kitchen only. They
10:36
are available for everyone in some sort
10:40
of retrofit option. Things like pull out
10:43
trash cans where you can have your trash
10:46
cans hidden in your kitchen. They're in
10:48
a little cabinet. You open the doors and
10:50
you pull them out and they slide on
10:52
rails. You don't have to have that built
10:54
into your cabinets anymore. You can buy
10:57
the rail system and insert your garbage
11:00
cans in there and it's easy as pie. You
11:04
also have options to have drawers that
11:09
don't require any hardware, right? And
11:11
they retrofit into your existing
11:13
cabinets. So, the newer kitchens have
11:17
large drawers that pull out. People of
11:19
course over time have found that a
11:22
drawer is much easier for managing heavy
11:25
bulky items in the kitchen. So people
11:28
may use them to store some of their
11:29
appliances like a standing mixer or air
11:32
fryer or just their heavy pots and pans
11:36
instead of having to have them in the
11:38
lower cabinet all the way down and you
11:40
kind of got to lean all the way down to
11:42
the floor and reach into the back to get
11:44
them. If you didn't have a custom
11:47
kitchen or a newer kitchen, that's what
11:48
you were stuck with. You were still
11:50
reaching for all of your items, but now
11:54
we have these pull out drawer systems.
11:58
And first they they came along with like
12:00
rails, right? So, if your cabinets were
12:04
sort of constructed in a certain way,
12:07
you could screw in the rails to either
12:10
side of the inside of your cabinet and,
12:12
you know, set in the drawer and you
12:14
could pull the drawer in and out. But
12:16
nowadays, they've made it even easier
12:19
where the base of your slide out drawer
12:22
sits flat on the bottom of your cabinet.
12:25
You have like a peel and stick sort of
12:27
option to kind of keep it in its place.
12:30
You don't even have to screw it into
12:31
your cabinetry and it just slides on
12:34
rails and you have a drawer that you can
12:36
slide in and out very easily. You can
12:39
use it to store your pots and pans, your
12:41
dishes, what have you. It makes things
12:44
very accessible in your kitchen. It
12:47
makes things even more organized. And
12:50
this is a trend that we're seeing in
12:52
kitchens all over the place. These slide
12:55
out drawers are just taking over.
12:58
Moreover, you're seeing sort of smaller
13:00
versions of them that aren't just made
13:02
for cabinets with pots and pans, right?
13:04
You're seeing these smaller acrylic
13:06
versions that are used for under the
13:09
sink organizing. They're used for
13:11
refrigerator organization and they're
13:13
used for pantry organization.
13:16
So, these cabinet innovations are making
13:19
it easy for someone to make their
13:22
kitchen something personalized,
13:24
functional, and beautiful. The pull out
13:28
cabinet drawers come in a bunch of
13:30
different finishes. You could have white
13:32
if you have an all-white cabinet. They
13:34
also have some that have a, you know, a
13:37
wood stained finish to them. So, they
13:39
look really pretty. They look like they
13:41
are made to be there and it doesn't
13:44
detract from the look that you already
13:45
have going on in your cabinet. And last,
13:48
but not least are robust floral
13:51
displays. I had a hard time naming this
13:55
category, but I know you're going to
13:56
know what I'm talking about. So, with
14:00
this trend, we are seeing people use
14:04
artificial flowers outside to create a
14:09
really lush curb appeal for their home
14:14
that they otherwise were not able to do
14:16
maybe even 10 years ago. And this is all
14:20
because of the innovation with
14:22
artificial flowers. Now for years and
14:25
years and years we have been using
14:27
artificial flowers inside. That's a very
14:29
common thing. Now using artificial
14:31
flowers outside however is new because
14:36
we now have artificial flowers that are
14:38
coming out that are already UVcoated and
14:41
they are made to withstand the outdoors.
14:44
So here's what this means. where you
14:47
were unable to maintain an incredible
14:50
flower bed, you now can do it without
14:53
the expense of real florals. That's the
14:58
seeds, the starter plants, the watering,
15:02
the weeding, all of the maintenance that
15:04
goes along with it. So either you were a
15:06
person who had the time to do it after
15:09
you invested in these rail plants and
15:11
you had the time to be outside and
15:13
maintain your yard or you had to pay
15:16
somebody to come and meticulously
15:18
maintain your yard for you. Nowadays you
15:22
can have a really beautiful floral
15:24
display and it be artificial
15:27
maintenance-free and no one would know
15:29
the difference. This is very, very
15:32
popular. Right now, when I'm filming
15:34
this, every time I swipe through social
15:38
media, I am seeing people put faux mums
15:42
in oversized potted plants on their
15:45
porch for fall. This has been happening
15:49
all over the place. It's a huge trend.
15:52
And everyone's talking about, "Oh, I got
15:53
these outdoor mums on Amazon or wherever
15:57
they purchase them from." And it's
15:59
because these artificial flowers are now
16:02
being released with this special sort of
16:05
UV coating. It's kind of like how back
16:07
in the day we used to have to scotch
16:08
guard everything. Anyone who was using
16:11
artificial flowers back in the day,
16:13
that's what they would have had to do.
16:14
They would have had to spray down these
16:16
flowers regularly to scotch guard them
16:18
to stop them from being bleached out by
16:19
the sun. But now, because people know
16:22
they're using them outdoors, they're
16:24
coming sort of pre-coated for you.
16:26
They're made to withstand the weather.
16:28
They're probably made a little bit
16:29
sturdier so the little, you know, silk
16:31
petals aren't flying all over the place.
16:33
But you can have beautiful like hanging
16:36
florals outside your front door. Or you
16:39
can have potted plants on your front
16:43
porch. You can have topiary plants.
16:45
That's another really big thing. It
16:47
doesn't just have to be colorful
16:48
flowers. You can have a really
16:50
beautifully manicured sort of like
16:53
spiral topiary or topiary balls that you
16:56
don't even have to maintain but look
16:58
very very lifelike and beautiful on your
17:01
front step. So this is a trend that has
17:05
taken off and it's all because of the
17:08
innovation with our artificial flowers
17:10
and our artificial trees. So, if you
17:13
have been finding it hard to maintain
17:15
the look of even your your front yard or
17:18
even your backyard, think about using
17:21
some of these artificial options to help
17:24
upgrade the look of your home without
17:25
the maintenance and without the stress.
17:28
That's it for this video. Those are four
17:30
interior design trends that everyone
17:33
should be following. They are things
17:36
that will really enhance the look of
17:38
your home and they're now easily
17:40
accessible to anyone.
