If you’re considering how to update your home this year, here’s what’s in, what’s out, and the interior trends for 2022.

The fun thing about exploring new trends is that you don’t have to do a complete overhaul of your space to test out a new style.

Tweaking even little details can completely change the atmosphere of your living space.

You can bring in a few key pieces, rearrange your furniture, and make your spaces feel like a brand-new home.

That being said, let’s get into the interior trends for 2022 that you may want to test-drive.

Interior Trends For 2022

This year there are 8 noteworthy interior trends that we’ve been seeing a lot of lately.

Let’s take a look at each one of them.

Shades of Green

Green is the color of renewal, energy, growth, harmony, freshness, safety, and fertility.

This year, muted shades of green are one of the most dominant interior trends for 2022.

Green is an all-around calming color for interiors, whether it’s for walls, accents, furniture, cabinetry, or just accessories.

If you prefer a little more vibrancy to your colors, jewel-toned shades of green are also making a comeback.

These look especially good on throw pillows, scarves, and linens for the living spaces. Forest green is also relaxing to look at.

Also, look to see a log of fog green cabinetry in the kitchen.

Mixing Textures

Textures are what add dimension to your interior accessories. It’s really not a surprise that natural materials are in the spotlight in the year’s most popular interior styles.

Go all-in with stoneware, marble, terracotta, and even wooden objects and surfaces to create some contrast.

Incorporating raw, natural materials creates an interesting visual texture to your living spaces while offering a calming ambiance.

Curved Furniture

Curved furniture tends to look and feel more safe, friendly, and inviting.

Rounded sofas, cabinets, coffee tables, and chairs, are the perfect way to soften your space and make it appear less angular and rigid.

 Biophilic Design & Nature-Inspired

In response to being shut indoors for over a year, biophilic design has become a popular way to bring the outdoors inside.

It’s a way to stay connected to nature and reap the calming benefits of being outdoors.

Everyone is eager to create calming environments filled with natural light, plenty of ventilation, and incorporating plants to create that visual connection with nature.

Installing living walls or recreating a rainforest-type experience indoors is becoming very popular.

A look at any Zen Garden will show that calming water features such as fountains paired with ample greenery are the way to go for that feeling of relaxation and tranquility that we’re all seeking.

Black, White, Brown, Beige Color Palettes

Black, white, brown, and beige are the palate cleansers for 2022.

There has been so much color and pattern in the last few years, that it’s no surprise we’re shifting back to muted neutrals, white, and wood canvasses for a more minimalist feel.

Chocolate brown is slowly making a comeback. It plays well with a handful of colors in addition to serving as a rich contrast for lighter neutrals.

Earthy browns will also make a comeback, so somewhere in the shades of burnt amber to cognac will make appearances soon.

Pantry Perfection

Not long ago, Khloe Kardashian’s pantry made waves on social media.

It featured carefully-arranged glass jars, snacks arranged in wicker baskets, and dispensers of baking ingredients and other necessities.

Her cookie-stacking techniques caught the attention of fans online as well.

This, of course, is nothing new for fans of Netflix’s show The Home Edit.

Organized pantries are a steady feature of the organizing duo that makes up The Home Edit team.

With enough motivation, organizing supplies, and labels, the look feels attainable as well as aspirational.

It’s no surprise so many people are jumping onto the super organized trend for 2022.

The appeal is understandable. Having an organized pantry is satisfying to look at.

That said, there really is no need to be obsessed about having an ultra-organized pantry just to have something to show off on social media.

The point of having an organized pantry is to make it easier for you to find what you need.

By sorting out what your most-used items in the pantry are and making a system that works well for you, you can achieve pantry perfection without having to pressure yourself at all.

Mixing Design Styles

Everyone wants to be unique. Even if our style is not totally original, we like to have our own spin on things.

One way to show off your individuality is to mix or create a mashup of interior design styles.

In fact, mixing design styles has been a staple tactic for professionals for years. It helps to create a more curated and refined look to an interior.

For example, a Brazilian vintage solid wood armchair would make a great stand-out piece in a contemporary home done in a neutral palette.

It adds interest to the space and can be used to create a warm, welcoming corner in a room.

Black Accents

Together with the introduction of Modern Farmhouse 2.0, black accents have somewhat expanded from kitchen fixtures to the rest of the house.

Now, matte black accents lend a sleek, modern appeal to the rest of the living spaces. And for good reason.

Black accents look great with any material, from marble, tile, or wood panels, to anything earthy.

Black accents can take the form of lamps, ottomans, sculptures, fixtures, trim, and other modern artwork.

What’s great about black is that it can go with any design style and yet can be tasteful, crisp, and neutral.

Conclusion

This year, test the waters and break out of your comfort zone and into some of the latest trends.

Now is the time to refresh and reset.

Introducing a new piece to your space can instantly update any look. You don’t need to take on a major renovation project. Subtly changing just a few elements can make a surprisingly big difference.
